The young years through age 5 are a vital time for children’s development and learning. Early childhood teachers understand that at home and in early childhood institutions like pre-schools and kindergartens, young children learn important skills that can provide them with the cornerstones needed for the development of later academic skills. Although correlations have been shown in numeracy and even arts, this is probably the most important in the area of literacy as providing this critical skill to young children can lead to marked improvement in overall achievement in school.
