Matariki is the Maori name for the Pleiades, a star cluster that rises in mid winder (late May/June) and heralds the start of the Maori New Year. Matariki literally means "eyes of God" and traditionally was a time to prepare the ground for planting. Matariki school resources celebrate these aspects as well as the Te Reo Maori language.
